Planned Actions

The main objective One of our research projects consists of fine-tuning high production systems of bioactive compounds based on the use of in vitro cultures of plant cells. Along with this main objective, it is also intended to address the use of plant by-products to obtain bioactive compounds, since the Research Group also works in this line oriented towards the design of strategies aimed at improving plant production based on circular bioeconomy and oriented to environmental sustainability to mitigate the negative impact on food and the environment.

To achieve this general objective, the following activities are being developed:

Maintenance of plant cell lines, by performing frequent subcultures in both solid and liquid media.

Stimulation of plant cell lines to increase the production of bioactive compounds and study the recovery systems of stimulating agents and cell biomass.

Extraction, identification/quantification of bioactive compounds constitutively present in cell cultures and those that are induced under stimulation conditions.

Evaluation of the cellular redox state under stimulation conditions.

Extraction and characterization of bioactive compounds present in plant by-products

Preparation of formulations and ingredients for use in the agri-food and cosmetic sectors

Analysis of the bioactivity of bioactive compounds and preparation of formulations (biostimulants and/or biofungicides) for application to seeds (priming effect).

Evaluation of tolerance/resistance of seedlings to multiple stresses

Bioactivity assays of bioactive compounds in human cell lines.

Education and training activities that focus on the acquisition of skills and abilities of young University Graduates/Graduates in the optimization processes for the generation of cell biomass by in vitro culture or use of residual plant biomass, in the stimulation of cell cultures to obtain bioactive compounds, and in the extraction and characterization processes of bioactives.

Research dissemination activities in Conferences, Congresses and scientific publications as well as scientific dissemination to society
